Chick-Lit Plus Blog Tours: One Pink Line by: Dina Silver

Goodreads Summary:

Can the love of a lifetime be forever changed by one pink line? Dina Silver’s tender, absorbing novel, One Pink Line, is the warmhearted, wry story of love, loss and family, as seen through the prism of one singular, spirited young couple who find themselves in a predicament that changes the course of their lives, and those closest to them. With heart, humor and compassion, this debut work of women’s fiction is certain to stir anyone who relishes a good laugh, can stand a good cry, and, above all believes in the redemptive power of love.

This unique, contemporary story gives readers a dual perspective. Sydney Shephard, a sweet-tempered, strong-natured college senior is young, in love with an exceptional man, and unexpectedly pregnant. Faced with a child she never planned for, she is forced to relay this news to her neurotic mother, relinquish her youth, and risk losing the love of her life. Then there’s Grace, a daughter, who believed she was a product of this great love, grows to realize her existence is not what she assumed, and is left with profound and puzzling questions about who she really is.

Spanning generations and every imaginable emotion, One Pink Line reveals how two points of view can be dramatically at odds, and perhaps ultimately reconciled. Simultaneously deeply felt and lighthearted, One Pink Line deftly mines how the choices we make are able to alter so many lives, and how doing the right thing and living honestly can bring unexpected, hard-won happiness. It’s a must-read for anyone who relishes a great love story, absorbing characters, and plenty of laughs along the way.

One Pink Line did it all for me, It made me laugh, cry, and I fell in love with the characters!! Sydney meets the love of her life Ethan when she's only in high school, and the two are completly inseperable until they go off to two seperate colleges, they make it through almost to the very end of their senior year though, until Sydney goes to a Frat Party and circumstances lead her to have a one-night stand with one of her best friends. When Sydney finds out she's pregnant, and that her friend wasn't who she thought he was, will Ethan and her relationship be damaged forever?

I couldn't put this book down, I found myself so invested in the characters and in the storyline that I kept wanting to turn the page, and the whole book felt fast-paced like that for me. I loved Sydney and Ethans' characters, and Ethan is completly swoon-worthy! yum yum! lol I like that the story read almost like a YA novel because other then Chick-Lit that's been my go-to genre for a while now. I like that the story starts with Sydney in High School and ends after her completing college, It felt relatable to me because of the age group.

I love how the two different points of view Sydney and Grace come together, and this book is one of very FEW that made me cry, I don't know what it was but the relationship between Ethan and Sydney felt so real to me that the phone call towards the end with Syd and Ethan made me lose it. If you love YA, contemporary, and /or Chick-lit, or are just a girl in general, I know you would love this book. Its bound to hold some relatability to anyone who's ever been in relationships, made mistakes, and tried to piece their lives back together again. I absolutely loved this story. A+ Dina Silver!!

Review: One for the Money by: Janet Evanovich

Goodreads Summary:

Read the Dynamite Blockbuster that Started It All!

Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash--fast--but times are tough, and soon she's forced to turn to the last resort of the truly desperate: family.

Stephanie lands a gig at her sleazy cousin Vinnie's bail bonding company. She's got no experience. But that doesn't matter. Neither does the fact that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop Joe Morelli. From the time he first looked up her dress to the time he first got into her pants to the time Steph hit him with her father's Buick, M-o-r-e-l-l-i has spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e. And now the hot guy is in hot water--wanted for murder.

Abject poverty is a great motivator for learning new skills, but being trained in the school of hard knocks by people like psycho prizefighter Benito Ramirez isn't. Still, if Stephanie can nab Morelli in a week, she'll make a cool ten grand. All she has to do is become an expert bounty hunter overnight--and keep herself from getting killed before she gets her man.

ReadingNook Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

I've had this book on my shelves for quite a long time, but as soon as my husband saw the preview for the movie adapdation of it with Katherine Heigel, I moved it up on my TBR list and I'm happy I did, What a character Stephanie Plum is, I can't wait to see how Katherine Heigel brings this character to life, and I think she is honestly perfect to play the role of Stephanie Plum, as I was reading a long she was exactally who I pictured playing the role. Not even because i've seen the previews with her in it, but simply because it seems like perfect role! I love Katherine Heigel as an actress and I think she will make Stephanie Plum come alive.

The mystery part of this story was pretty predictable, which is probably the only reason why I didn't give this book a 4 star rating, at times I felt the storyline dragged on a bit, but on the other hand, I LOVED the characters and I think thats what really made me enjoy this story as much as I did. Stephanie Plum was down to earth, humourous, witty, and at times down-right hilarious. I also really loved the character of Cop Joe Morelli, for some reason I found him charming from the get-go and he definitely had that bad-boy essence that appealed to me, although i pegged it early on that he was falsely accussed of the crime.

I know this is a Massive series and I believe she is on book #19 with a few companion novels out at this point, if I'm correct, I'm very behind on jumping on the Stephanie Plum train, but I'm really happy that I did because I found this to be a light, humourous read, with a bit of mystery, that left me wanting more and this was exactally what I was in the mood for. I'm hoping to get book 2 soon and try to slowly catch up on this series, there's just so many books, so little time.

Graphic Novel Review: Friends with Boys by: Faith Erin Hicks

Goodreads Summary:

A coming-of-age tale with a spooky twist!

Maggie McKay hardly knows what to do with herself. After an idyllic childhood of homeschooling with her mother and rough-housing with her older brothers, it’s time for Maggie to face the outside world, all on her own. But that means facing high school first. And it also means solving the mystery of the melancholy ghost who has silently followed Maggie throughout her entire life. Maybe it even means making a new friend—one who isn’t one of her brothers. Funny, surprising, and tender, Friends with Boys is a pitch perfect YA graphic novel full of spooky supernatural fun.

ReadingNook Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

This was my first graphic novel that i've ever read, and to be honest I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had a physical copy opposed to reading an ARC galley on my nook, that I recieved via Netgalley. The format was a bit screwey, with about 10-20 pages of words and then the corresponding pictures after that, which in my opinion took away from the overall effect of it, and through no fault of its own, I felt like I had a different experience then most people because of that.

I did enjoy the story though, The main character Maggie was adorable in my opinion, and I loved her three older brothers. I felt like that they made the story what it was. Maggie had been homeschooled her whole life, and now that she's in highschool she is no longer being homeschooled but needs to move on and go to public school which means she needs to make friends, and become a part of a society that she knows nothing about.

Maggie also has a secret, she see's a ghost, and has for many years. This ghost dosen't scare her, but she dosen't quite understand why its there. This book overall was a quick, and fun read. I just don't know if I got the full experience I would have from reading a physical copy versus a e-book version, that had a bit of a weird format.

Chick-Lit Plus Blog Tours: Princess of Park Avenue by: Daniella Brodsky

Goodreads Summary:

How far would you go to forget Mr. Wrong?

Anyone can see Lorraine Machuchi is no ordinary Brooklyn girl. Anyone except for Lorraine, that is. She’s been too busy obsessing over Tommy Lupo to notice. Living day to day on his confusing midnight phone calls and big-haired memories of their relationship in the early nineties, she’s given up any opportunity of leaving Brooklyn. And though she never saw the home she loves as a failure, there are lots of folks she’s pissed off by staying put—her mother, her dead grandmother’s ghost, not to mention the old Italian ladies who shake their heads at her in the pork store. And what’s worse, the very guy she tossed everything away for just told her he’ll never wind up with her—a girl who’s not going anywhere.

…Okay, so you might disapprove of her motive—changing for a guy. But then you probably haven’t seen Tommy with three shirt buttons undone. Besides, when Lorraine crosses the bridge to Manhattan she begins to realize she’s got a lot to offer. She starts coloring hair at a swank salon where they actually appreciate a little talent, even if you have to bend some rules to use it. She gets a fabulous Park Avenue sublet, even if it does involve chasing around a dog/horse named Pooh-Pooh.She meets a guy who’s actually…perfect, even if she might be too hung up on Mr. Wrong to notice. She’s asked to become the newest member of the Princesses, an elite group of Park Avenue’s most powerful socialites, even if the reasoning behind it might be a little fishy. Sure, their $400 cashmere sweaters, charity balls for poor girls with small boobs, and ‘sexy’ yoga are a bit over-the-top, but a Brooklyn girl can learn a lot by discovering her own inner princess…

My Review:
ReadingNook Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Although this book took me a while to get through, It was through no fault of its own. This book was actually right up my alley, and was probably one of my favorite chick-lit books i've read in a long time. I could relate to Lorianne (the main character) because i'm almost done with hairdressing school right now, and have big dreams for my future, similar to what she had for herself.

Lorianne's romantic situation, although fustrating at times, was relatable, everyone has either gone through or knows someone who can't get over a relationship that was toxic in nature, and that always ends in hurt, because of disapointment, cheating, etc. I like how Lorianne's decisions played out in the end though.

The aspect of the Princesses in this book was a bit mean girl-esqe, which was ok with me because I loved that movie, but it also reminded me of the show "You're Cut Off", and showed this level of society girls that are used to getting whatever their hearts desired, whenever they wanted it. I love that high-society kind of story, maybe because thats so far from my own life, but I enjoy reading stories that involve that kind of character for some reason.

Overall, I really enjoyed the storyline, Lorianne's career was one that intrigued me, I've never read a chick-lit novel that's main character was in the beauty industry, in fact I feel like they are always in the jouralism or editorial fields, and thats about it, which personally gets a bit dull after a while, because it's so repetitive. I also loved the characters as well as Lorianne's romantic interests. If you like fun, hilarious, and a modern chick-lit story you'll love this one.
