Review & Giveaway: Slide by: Jill Hathaway

Goodreads Summary:

Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.

Sylvia (Vee) has the ability to slide into other peoples minds when she touches something they've "imprinted" on. She slides into the mind of the man who killed her sisters best friend Sophie, whom everyone thinks committed suicide. Who can she tell though, without knowing who the killer is, and who would believe her, when the story sounds so crazy, even to herself.

I know this book has had some mixed reviews, but I absolutly loved it. This type of book is right up my alley, with the psychological thriller aspect of it. I was on the edge of my seat throughout this whole book and found myself zipping through the pages to find out what happened next. I read this whole book in one day, and pretty much in one sitting minus small breaks to eat and use the restroom. I couldn't put this book down, and although some reviews felt disapointed with the ending, I really liked it. I like who the killer ended up being, and didn't feel like it came out of left field at all.

This book had crazy twists and turns and i'm so happy this is the first in the series, because I can't wait to get more of these characters. Vee and her best friends Rollins were very easy characters to like, and I thought they were both well-developed and easily relatible.

If you like "who done it?" type books, or psychological thrillers of sorts, then I think you'll really enjoy this story, I know I did, and can't wait to read more from Jill.

It’s not until Travis runs into Harper, a girl he’s had a rocky relationship with since middle school, that life actually starts looking up. And as he and Harper see more of each other, he begins to pick his way through the minefield of family problems and post-traumatic stress to the possibility of a life that might resemble normal again. Travis’s dry sense of humor, and incredible sense of honor, make him an irresistible and eminently lovable hero

ReadingNook Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

As soon as I read the premise for Dead to You by Lisa McMann I knew I had to read it. It sounded spectacular and i'm ashamed to say that prior to reading Dead To You I had not read anything else by her. Ethan is seven years old when he's abducted in front of his younger brother, but isn't seven years old, old enough to know better then to get into a car with a stranger? Nine years later, Ethan is brought back to his family and thrown back into a life he dosen't remember anything about.

Ethan's struggle to get back in the swing of his families life, and his journey to feeling like he belongs was truly heart-breaking. I felt for him so hard because his younger brother was hesistant to believe that he was really Ethan, and his little sister (that he'd never met) felll right in love with him. My heart broke along with him, but I guess I was always hoping for more from the story. I couldn't relate to his brothers hatred of him and at times hated him for it.

The ending held a bit of surprise for me and for that I did think this was a pretty decent book, it didn't fall as flat as I thought it was going to for me when I was half-way through the story. I really wish that story would have continued on, whatever happened to Ethan, what was his families reaction??!!! It left me feeling incomplete, the story just stopped aprubtly and left me with too many questions. I loved Lisa's writing story, I just wanted more from the story, I guess maybe more answers, and more depth because that felt a little forced to me at times. If you do like mysterys and heartbreaking contempories then you should definitely check this story out, It's gotten some RAVE reviews, and I didn't dislike it, just wanted a little more from the story.

ReadingNook Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

As soon as I read the synopsis for Notes to Self I knew I wanted to read it. I have always loved contemporary YA novels and hard-hitting ones are the ones that really draw me to them the most. Robin and Emily are best friends and when a tragic fall leads them both into a coma, everyone wants to know what really happened. When Robin wakes up, while Emily continues to sleep Robin is forced to deal with her brain injury on her own without really knowing what happened that night. Robin goes back to the school and is shunned as the reason for Emily's comatose state, but what role did Robin actually play in the accident? and why was she there in the first place?

This book drew me right in, I wasn't bored with the story at all, and flew through it. I loved the characters and felt that they were extremely well-developed. I loved Robin and Reno, and wish they developed their relationship sooner in the story, because I loved the "unspoken chemistry" between the two of them, but on the other hand i'm happy that instalove didn't occur either.

I also liked the mystery of the story, and how Robin wrote notes to herself to fill in the blanks and the missing pieces of her life that she wasn't able to remember post-accident. I liked how the story had flashbacks of prior to the accident and felt that also helped with the character development, especially the relationship between Robin and Emily, and you were able to understand there relationship a little bit more then you would have been able to if that wasn't a part of the story.

If you enjoy contemporary YA reads, this is definitely one to add to your TBR lists. It was eye-opening in many different ways, has a message of hope, and a great story that will draw you in from the very beginning to the very end.
